Kaneohe Elementary School has adopted a Computerized Point of Sale System for all school meals called Meal Tracker. This is a state approved system of tracking meals for public schools in the State of Hawaii.

Advanced Sales
Beginning next Monday, March 13, 2006, all students must pay for all meals at Kaneohe Elementary by filling out an envelope and dropping it in a box at the office during office hours of 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily. The envelope is titled “Advanced Meal Payment” and asks for the following information: Child’s name, homeroom, grade, and amount to be credited to the student’s account. Please make payment a week before monies will expire to ensure the credit will be in your child’s account. More Info

KANEOHE ELEMENTARY MUST FOLLOW FEDERAL STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR STUDENT MEALS. IF WE ARE FOUND NOT IN COMPLIANCE, WE WILL LOSE PART OF THIS BENEFIT AND THE SCHOOL WILL NOT RECEIVE FULL BENEFITS WHICH PRESENTLY SUPPLEMENT THE COST OF THE MEALS.

Breakfast: Student breakfast $0.35 (no change)
Reduced price student breakfast $0.20 (no change)
Adult breakfast $1.50 (increase of $0.25)
Second and subsequent student breakfast $1.50 (increase of $1.15)
Lunch: Student lunch $1.25 (increase of $0.25)

Second and subsequent student lunch $4.00 (increase of $3.00)

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: IF YOUR CHILD REQUESTS A SECOND FULL LUNCH, THEY WILL END UP PAYING AN EXTRA $4.00 FOR LUNCH. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD UNDERSTANDS THIS AND IT IS OKAY WITH YOU TO PAY AN EXTRA $4.00 FOR LUNCH. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHETHER YOUR CHILD’S FIRST LUNCH IS FULL PRICE, REDUCED OR FREE, THEY WILL STILL END UP PAYING AN EXTRA $4.00 FOR LUNCH.

THEY MAY GET THE ENTREE (THE PART OF THE LUNCH IN THE LARGEST COMPARTMENT) FOR $1.25 IF THEY WANT SECONDS ON THAT PORTION ONLY.

IF YOUR CHILD REQUESTS A SECOND BREAKFAST, THEY WILL END UP PAYING AN EXTRA $1.50 WHETHER OR NOT THEIR FIRST BREAKFAST IS FULL PRICE, REDUCED OR FREE.

Meal

Meal Counting and Claiming
  • Anonymous student or adult sales are not permitted.
  • Students who don’t have their meal cards for lunch, shall report to the office to get a lunch slip that indicates the student’s name, grade and room number. The lunch slip is given at the point of sale as a medium of exchange for a meal.
  • The lunch slip is then transferred to a loan slip that is given through the students to the parents in a sealed envelope. Lunch loans should be paid by the following school day. Calls are made to parents of overdue lunch loan recipients.
  • Students who are not enrolled at Kaneohe Elementary and are not public school students, or are public school students and are not on campus for an approved school function, or are students attending private schools, or students too young to attend school shall pay adult prices for all meals served.

    TICKET DISTIBUTION
Meal tickets for lunch are distributed in a zippered pouch to the classrooms by the office monitor. The classrooms distribute the tickets to the students before the students enter the cafeteria. Lunch tickets are in student’s hands as they enter the cafeteria. The students give their tickets to the meal clerk at the end of the line after they have their lunches in hand.

    MEAL SERVICE
At Kaneohe Elementary, the serving line begins at the mauka entrance of the cafeteria closest to Mokulele Drive. Payment for meals are done at the end of the line after meals are served. Serving includes all food components. All plates consist of the required amounts of each component.

    OVERT IDENTIFICATION
Free and reduced-priced students are not overtly identified in the payment transaction. Meal cards are scanned for payment of meals. All meal cards look the same with student name, grade and room number. The meal clerk accepts money only for second meals, adult meals and milk only. Lunch loans are in the form of a lunch slip without and amount indicated. The list of students who receive free or reduced meals is kept confidential.
    COMPETETIVE FOOD SALES
Vending machines which distribute only beverages are on timers where no sales are done between the hours of 7:20 A.M. and 12:25 P.M. daily.

    CIVIL RIGHTS
Our lunch program at Kaneohe Elementary is non-discriminatory. We serve all students. A poster titled “And Justice for all…” is posted in the cafeteria and in the main office of our school.

    SPECIAL NEEDS
Meals are provided for students with special needs as prescribed by a licensed physician.

Children with food allergies or intolerances do not have a disability as defined by either Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act or part B of IDEA, and the food service may, but is not required to make food substitutions for them.

However, when the licensed physician’s assessment states that the food allergy may result in severe, life-threatening (anaphylactic) reactions, the child’s condition would meet the definition of “disability,” and the substations prescribed by the licensed physician will be made.

Students with dietary needs and who do not have a disability, but who are medically certified as having a special medical or dietary need will be handled on a case by cases basis. Our SFSM may make food substitutions at their discretion. A medical statement from a licensed physician must include:
  • An identification of the medical or other special dietary conditions, which restricts the child’s diet.
  • The food or foods to be omitted from the child’s diet.
  • The food or choice of foods to be substituted.
